Oxford Artweeks 2023

Urban Gallery

Oxford Artweeks is a multi-venue event showcasing the arts in Oxfordshire in hundreds of locations. As a member of the Oxford Photographers group I am exhibiting at the Andrew Wiles Building, home to the Oxford University's Mathematical Institute.  Here I am showing a variety of photographs showing street art, from the simple (and not so simple) graffiti tags to complex works worthy of space in a conventional art gallery.

The recent announcement by Rishi Sunak of a clampdown on anti-social behaviour immediately brought to mind a vision of Banksy being fined and forced to clean off one of his pieces within 48 hours. When does anti-social graffiti become art?  Where do you draw the line?  I suspect I am a lot more tolerant than most, there may be times when a graffiti daubed subway seems more threatening, but I'm more likely to seek out such places with camera in hand.
